A lap of the lower forty-eight, starting and finishing at Bayport. Down the coast to the Keys, along the Gulf into Texas, out to the desert, up the California shoreline, across the northern tier and home through New England — seventy-six stops, most of them the sort of field where the fuel pump is a phone call and somebody comes out to say hello. It is a long way round on purpose. Fly a leg when you have an evening.
